1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Stalls While Driving [Fix It 100%]

Are you now having problems with the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 stalls while driving? Well, I’ll tell you what you can do to fix it. The Dodge ram problem symptoms start when you are about to go down the road, and the truck stops running entirely. Then, when you look at the gauge, it will stop for a while and drop rapidly.

Surprisingly, you still have power in the dash and everything.

But you want to have power for the vehicle, so you go to the side of the road, turn off the key, turn it back on, and the truck will start OK. Then you might drive about a mile or even less and do the same thing repeatedly.

Alright, you will now try to diagnose the problem and see if you can fix it. Also, it seems like during driving at about a speed of 35 or lowers, you might not have a problem, but when you go over that number, you’ll see the gauges drop immediately.

How To Fix 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Stalls While Driving

There are several reasons why your truck stalls. To find out and fix it, you should check it from the easiest first. So you won’t spend a lot of money buying parts that you don’t need.

Check Fluids and Wires

Try doing a quick check to make sure the fluids are at the right level. Also, check the cables or wires, are there any loose or rusty ones? Fix it immediately if you find it.

Clean Idle Air Control Valve

Many things can cause a Dodge Ram vehicle to stall. You’ll find out what’s working for you by trying to do the quickest and cheapest things possible before you decide to buy one of those sensors. First, check your idle air control valve.

First of all, you need to loosen the connected band by going to the airbox. On the airbox, you’ll find little nipple-like holders, so pull them out and lift. After removing the air box, you will loosen some of the bolts on each side and remove the mass airflow sensor.

Loosen the other bolt on the side, and if you look behind you, you’ll see the hose-band. So it would help if you loosened it too.

You’ll get one more hose running down the back of the box. Then, finally, you must remove the engine case to disassemble the entire pipe assembly.

So you’re going to pull idle air control out. Usually, it looks pretty dirty, so you need to clean it. Hopefully, that fixes it. If it does, then you won’t need to go any further.

Check the Camshaft Sensor

If checking and cleaning the idle air control valve doesn’t work for the Dodge Ram 1500 stalls, I hope you know where the camshaft sensor is. Now you will need to check it and replace it if the condition is not good.

All right, it’s under the passenger side valve cover, pretty much under the head, so it’d be pretty easy to get to that. Just remove one bolt, and then it will fall right off.

Check also the wire loom connected to the camshaft sensor because it is usually dirty and greasy. Hopefully, that is also what is causing the problem with your vehicle.

Now it’s time for parts shopping. You can go to your local store and buy a new camshaft sensor, approx 30 dollars, and see if that fixes it. You need to unscrew one bolt to get it out, and that’s 10 mm.

Check the Fuel Pressure

You’ll also want to know your gas pressure, so you’ll use a fuel pressure tester. You can use kit model number 27167 for a good 83 dollars with all the instructions for use. So you’ll use it to see if it’s a lack of fuel that’s stalling your truck. After you connect the fuel pressure input, turn the key forward but do not start it. So you can see where the pressure is.

Wait about five minutes and make sure the tester fuel pressure gauge is stable and holding the pressure. Now, start your truck and leave it idle. The gauge tester will show around 50 psi if all is well, where Dodge is running. After that, you will leave it idle until it stalls.

You want to see if the fuel pressure drops significantly or not? If so, there is most likely a problem with the filter or fuel pump. But if the pressure is almost constant or doesn’t change significantly, then your fuel pressure is acceptable; this means that other factors cause your Dodge truck to stall.

Check The Coil Packs

If all of the above methods don’t work, the most likely culprit is the coil packs. So it seems you need to replace the eight coils on your Dodge with a new one. Hopefully, it will fix the 1999 Dodge Ram stalls while driving.
