The fresh Audi e-tron S Sportback is a variant of the Audi electrically pure SUV. The e-tron SUV and the Sportback e-tron version of the SUV coupe are now available with more power and sporty.
The new Audi e-tron was built in Brussels. The plant had been previously “cleaned” for e-tron in particular before constructing the Audi A1.
2020 New Audi e-tron S Sportback
On the e-tron 55 model, a large electric motor drives the rear axle and a smaller one for the front axle. But on the e-tron S Sportback, a large electric motor is used in the front axle and 2 small ones in the rear axle where the engine arrangement allows active torque vectoring.
The radiator grille is substantially closed at the front because electric cars do not require more cooling.
Low wind resistance is more important, for example, by covering the lower part of the vehicle body completely.
The headlamps apply LED technology and are optionally available as high beam matrix LEDs.
In this case, a cascade flash is available.
Audi is also implementing LED mirror innovations on the e-tron Sportback, allowing micromirrors to use light to do extraordinary things, including lighting up roads with lines.
In the future, this might be relevant for augmented reality functions.
Audi e-tron S Sportback Price
Audi e-tron 50, starting at 67,000 euros (small battery), and larger batteries at 79,000 euros for e-tron 55.
Meanwhile, starting at 70,000 euros are Audi e-tron Sportback 50 and 81,000 euros for larger batteries (55).
Besides, the Model S costs EUR 94,000 and EUR 96,000, respectively.
Audi e-tron S Sportback Dimensions
Compared to the e-tron SUV, the back of the Sportback drops insignificantly. It gives a more vibrant appearance because the 700 kg battery is positioned on the car floor, and other parts are set brilliantly.
The weight distribution ratio from the front side to the back is equal. As an alternative, external virtual mirrors are available and can send camera images inside.
For example, a 7-inch camera image must respond to changes. Angles and zooms transform based on acceleration and driving scenarios. But the motorway display above 90 km/h is not as expected.
However, tilted viewing when parking in reverse is beneficial. As is the case with vintage mirrors. In the driving section, we’ll explain in detail how exactly virtual mirrors operate.
The Audi e-tron and Audi e-tron Sportback have a length of 4.90 m and a bit less than the Tesla Model X and only slightly longer than the Jaguar I-Pace.
In total, other large Audi models enter the dimensions of A6, A7, A8, Q7, and Q8. Wheel arches can basically be obtained in body colors, black and gray.
The standard Audi e-tron S is body color, while metallic gray is an option. Stronger spoilers and extended wheel arches, which are 2.3 cm on both sides, are also available for the Audi e-tron S, making it more sporty and only fits the Sportback variant.
Sportback e-tron has 19-inch rims in the side profile while 20-inch comes with the s-line or e-tron S. The Audi e-tron Sportback comes standard with air suspension and the s-line has a sporty setup.
Thanks to the falling roofline, the e-tron Sportback shoulders belong to themselves. The Audi e-tron S (Sportback) is slightly tighter than the e-tron s-line for the same air suspension.
While all displays are off, the center console shows a sizeable black monitor. You will see two touch screens when the ignition is on, measuring 10.1 and 8.6 inches.
The Audi Virtual Cockpit 12.3 electronic device on the left is standard in high definition resolution. The basic layout of the Audi e-tron refers to the Audi A6, A7, A8, and Q8.
The Audi e-tron is fitted with exceptional electrical graphics for mobility and recovery. The paddle steering wheel can be used to adapt the recovery rate from 0 to 2.
You may set whether the Audi e-tron recognizes this configuration in the MMI system or clear it after pressing on the brake pedal. Then switching to an auto-recovery mode, where the e-tron only restores when recognizing it.
Now you can choose gear with a particular type of switch, where the automatic selection lever is usually placed.
The switch is pulled forward or pushed. But it’s not too intuitive, because it can be annoying when you do it many times while driving on winding roads.
On e-tron, Audi offers you four styles of seats, they are:
Base seats come with fabric covers or with synthetic-genuine leather blends. The sports seats and Alcantara in the center panel are present in the S-line package and are also standard on the e-tron S, while the animal leather is outside the supportive seats.
The Sports seat, including incorporated headrests, such as a multi-contour seat, will only be provided with animal leather. In either case, the seat design is very comfortable.
Audi will be at the frontline in terms of convenience but not sustainability or animal friendliness.
However, at Tesla, animal leather is wholly removed from the car, and instead, the latest Mercedes EQC provides many stylish animal-free covers in a typical configuration. In terms of functionality,
Audi is lag behind in large designs. Tesla and Mercedes also provide alternative steering covers. You can expect at least a sporty steering wheel with Alcantara parts on the Audi S and S-line.
But in terms of workmanship, Audi makes one of the best interiors.
Optionally you have a B&O 16 speaker sound system for maximum musical enjoyment. The C-pillar speaker on the back has excellent audio quality.
Come to think of it, practically, the Audi e-tron has the benefit of being an electric vehicle because there is no central tunnel. But the control part for the AC 4 zone automatically protrudes far back.
Even so, there is plenty of room for four adults and enough legroom in the back at the Audi Q7 level.
