Now, the Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman get another variant. You can get GTS equipment with 4.0 l 6-cylinders from the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder. In the long run, the new six cylinders will replace the four cylinders GTS. We will provide information about the comparison of four cylinders with six cylinders and Boxster with Cayman.
When compared with the Porsche 911, you will know that the 718 headlamps are slightly more pointed. Neither Boxster nor Cayman has a bright side air intake because the engine’s position is in the middle. It is not behind as in 911. On the front, the Porsche 718 Boxster / Cayman air intake forms a more horizontal line.
Porsche installs Xenon headlights as standard. As optional, there are bi-xenon headlights, including the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), full LED headlights, and dynamic cornering lights.
You can recognize the LED headlamps with four LEDs, which are sorted slightly wider around the central light unit. They flattened the lights up and down. The xenon headlight’s shape is wholly round, and the four-eye LED face is sorted right around the headlamps.
Porsche 718 Boxster has an 18-inch rim, Boxster S with 19 inches, while Boxster and Cayman GTS gets 20-inch black wheels, the size is also the same for the GTS 4.0 model. The Boxster T and Cayman T come with a 20-inch gray titanium rim and a gray wing mirror cover.
At the rear, accent strips connect the two rear lights to emphasize the width. The exhaust system is generally centralized where 718 Boxster is in the standard version with one, optional, or with Boxster S & GTS with two tailpipes. Model 718-T comes with a black sport exhaust system. GTS 4.0 now comes with two tailpipes that stand apart, no longer centered at the rear to ensure a broader stance.
The interior of this car is pure and no-frills, with ventilation nozzles showing big bulges upward. There is an analog clock in between, and the GTS comes directly with the Sports Chrono package. The steering wheel has a racing appearance with visible screws, inspired by the 918 Spyder. You can also decide if you want purer steering without controls or use the buttons to adjust the volume and more.
There is also a new infotainment touch screen with a bright display and short response time. Smartphone connections not only via Bluetooth but can be through other applications such as Apple CarPlay.
The standard Porsche 718 Boxster T and 718 Cayman T don’t have infotainment screens, and there is only one storage compartment at this time. However, PCM is available on request at no additional cost. PCM is standard on GTS, but you have to pay € 300 for the Apple CarPlay interface and € 2000 for the navigation system.
The 718 Boxster isn’t very practical among compact sports convertibles because it has two loading spaces, 125 l at the back and 150 l at the front. It is enough for two small airport trolleys, a backpack, and a few small items, and even the tiny cart fits in the rear trunk. There is no other sporty and compact convertible that offers such ample storage space.
In the basic version, Porsche shows the future feasibility for Boxster and Cayman. Regular standard seats come in a combination of Alcantara on the inside and synthetic leather on the outside. Adaptive Plus sports seats with more lateral support but with a little less movement come as packages with GTS and covered with Alcantara.
We usually recommend a primary seat in terms of comfort, but there is no choice with GTS. The 718 T comes with a Sport-Tex fabric center panel on a sports chair. But animal skin and not synthetic leather are used outside.
Bucket seats are also available in two versions with Alcantara inside. The Sport Plus seat is designed more openly, where the bucket seat is one of the most comfortable.
But you have to take the first bucket seat at an additional cost of € 2,500 and not an all-carbon bucket seat, which is twice as expensive, which is thinner but looks very hard.
You can order a steering wheel for € 700 with the cover of Alcantara, including the GTS. There is also an Alcantara cover for the center console and armrests.

Acceleration from 0-100 km / h in 4.9 or 4.7 seconds with the Sport-Plus button activated on the base of 718 with the manual gearshift, slightly faster than its predecessor.
Because the six cylinders are not much worse in weight, the main chassis and rim are more massive. Out of the total 30 kg of the additional weight, the engine calculates only 10 kg.
The GTS comes as standard with the Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical differential locks, also Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), adaptive chassis starting at 20 mm or 10 mm lower.
718 Cayman for € 55,000 and Boxster for € 57,000. The 718 T model costs € 9,000 above the base level and is priced at € 64,000 (Cayman) and € 66,000 (Boxster). Just under € 4,000, on top of that, the S model has a more powerful engine. At € 82,000 and € 84,000, the GTS 4.0 model is € 3,000, which is more expensive than the 4-cylinder GTS. But at least € 12,000 cheaper than Spyder and GT4.
First of all, about four cylinders, no matter what people say about sound, philosophy, or durability, the small turbo engine in the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman only has the advantage when it comes to sportiness. A significant increase in torque compared to previously naturally aspirated engines can be seen.
There is no turbo lag, and you don’t need to spin like a vacuum cleaner.
You can even drive lazily; so much power is available.
If you drive with hand control, you feel that the 718 Boxster / Cayman can be moved up and down and at any speed in third gear; this makes the engine power feel greater.
6-speed gearshift has short, sharp, fresh paths. Fans of sporty gearshift will feel at home here.
PDK, which shifts relatively early and soft in standard driving modes, ensures greater comfort. However, the lower gear can be chosen at any time using the paddle on the steering wheel. If the new driving mode switch on the steering wheel is set to Sport or Sport +, PDK uses lower gear from the start and becomes higher. Steering mode is also seen in manual transmissions. For example, in terms of stability, control is reduced, and the rear can be circled sporty.
718 Boxster T and 718 Cayman T can also be obtained with PDK regardless of the sporty and pure concept. The basic 300 hp engine has less displacement but is still enough for a vehicle because of its low weight. So Boxster is just as fun. With a relaxed drive, you can even reach a minimum consumption of 8 l / 100 km. The Boxster T with Alcantara steering wheel, cloth seats, weight-saving racing door handles, and the reliable engine still provides an exceptional driving experience.
You can reach 12 liters / 100 km on a 4-cylinder GTS with a 2.5-liter engine but with a lot of uphill driving.
The impression of driving Boxster vs. Cayman is almost no different on regular roads, but Cayman with a closed body provides a little more stability.
The Cayman GTS can be directed right to the point, and it’s fun; it feels light, the perfect car. Now it’s six cylinders, not turbo, but vacuum. The 4.0 l 6-cylinder with 400 PS is significantly more reliable than the 4-cylinder, although it is only accelerated as a manual switch compared to a 4-cylinder GTS with a PDK of up to 4.5 seconds.
More fun With 6-Cylinder
On one side, you can move the GTS 4.0 very aggressively at high speed, designed so that you can turn the gears very high. On the other hand, massive displacement and six cylinders mean that driving is also quieter, more sophisticated, calm at low engine speeds, and it’s fun.
So yes, six cylinders are more fun than four. The manual gearshift is designed to be comfortable, and most can be done on the second and third gear. The average consumption level drops at 11-12 l / 100 km, so four small cylinders are ultimately more efficient.
Sporty suspension in all variants! The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which comes with GTS as standard and is 20 mm lower, will adjust the damping style for both race tracks or paved country roads. In normal driving mode, you also have enough comfort. Connection to the way is perfect in normal mode. You know that you can get Boxster / Cayman exactly where you want it with the mid-engine concept.
The top of the Boxster is available in black, blue, brown, and red, which can be opened and closed up to speeds of 50 km/hour. If it is open, the 718 Boxster instantly shows the quality of a summer convertible. Boxster and Cayman have the same weight. Boxster is more challenging in the interior only at very high road speeds.

In general, the 718 model is excellent and sporty in the basic version. The 718 T model consistently continues sporty and remains true to the original Porsche idea that it doesn’t have to be the highest engine, but the right one.
The new GTS 4.0 model offers a feeling of suction with a roar. However, driving behavior always provides the perfect sporty balance, and no other vehicle shows you pleasant handling.
The price for a complete Boxster is very high – but still far cheaper than in the internal comparison of the 911s. So, the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 has certainly been valued at the top end of the model range.
