2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate Package Review

The turbo is impressive, and it hits a sweet spot perspective because you could have a manual or 7-speed DCT. With this Veloster, Hyundai is promising more driving engagement, fun, and an excellent design that’s going to separate you from the rest of the wheels on the roads.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate 2020: Exterior

2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate headlight, grille, and bumper

  • Front section

At the front, you’ll love the metallic gray sparkles like a diamond. As the second generation of the Veloster, there were some significant changes, especially at the front and the back.

The headlight housing is charming. Hyundai went to full LED projector-beam, headlight daytime running lamps, and LED turn signals.

You will see an ample fog light in the lower area, which is good for giving you additional lighting and balancing the lamp design with some more lighting at the bottom. You’ll find a functional side air curtain, and you have a lower lip spoiler extension on the turbo trim option.

You’ll see a massive open front grille area. The design of the actual grill is adorable, it’s gloss black, and it has a beautiful wavy look.

The lower lip spoiler that comes across the whole bottom section and the bright orange gives it enough extra touch to separate it and tell us something a little sporty and different because this is the Veloster Turbo.

For the most part, the hood still looks very much the same as the body section. You’ll see the raised area and the way it kind of curves away and then goes towards the a-pillars but nice and smooth, nothing fake on the hood.

  • Side  Section

Around the bend, you get wheels and tires particular to the turbo with dark gray and the machined aluminum.  You have the 18-inch wheel, 225 on the width, and 40 series sidewall.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate wheel

It’s going to give you a pleasant in-between performance and a slightly bit better ride because it’s not a 30 series, so it’s not like a tiny rubber band.

Also, you’ll love the body lines, the way one kind of curves up and goes into the driver’s door and kind of fades away.

You’re going to get black mirror caps with nice slim LED turn signals. You’ll like the way that Hyundai blackout the a-pillars. The ultimate trim package has a panoramic sunroof and Hyundai blackout the whole roof section back towards the roof spoiler.

Remember, this is a three-door hatchback, two doors on the side and one door on the driver’s side. The gloss black lower sill extension, mainly the proper aerodynamic curve up with the turbo badge, is fantastic. Of course, that is individual to the turbo trim only.

Hyundai picks up the body line that started on the front fender; they pick it up at the rear and bring it to the back fender with a nice touch.

  • Rear

You got a shark fin antenna, but the windshield wiper looks a little bulky. However, you have the button underneath it to open up the rear hatch easily. Also, you’ll find a Veloster badge and a 1.6T.  Hyundai brings a little bit more gloss where the balances out from the front. You do have some excellent unique designs on the sides and a very aggressive rear diffuser.

One helpful piece of information is the exhaust is a real exhaust because, in the first generation, it was just decorative trim rings, and the exhaust was behind it. Now, you have a full exhaust.

The more significant release is underneath is going to be a multi-link rear suspension. So this is the first time on the Veloster to have the independent rear suspension, which will make the handling so much more efficient.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate 2020: Engine

The engine is 1.6 liter inline-four turbocharged. You could have a six-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT with 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate engine

The car weighs 2987 pounds, front-wheel drive, and the MPGs are 28 in the city 34 on the highway.

The acceleration from 0 – 60 in about six seconds. Overall, this is a great flexible package for those who want something sporty, diverse, and functional from a hatchback, but you can get a 7-speed DCT on this particular vehicle.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate 2020: Interior

  • Front interior

On the passenger door panel, you get a beautiful blending of two distinct colors. So there’s an off-white and the darker black material.

Everything is gorgeous, easy to clean, and you don’t have to worry about fingerprints sticks on the flat black.

You have enough room down in the pocket. However, it’s a little hard on the door panel’s plastic material, but it does look good with the two-tone color.

  • Dashboard

The texture on the dash is excellent. Hyundai brought the checkered flag design so simple. It just looks lovely and tasteful. You get your glovebox, and you can quickly put some kinds of stuff.

On the ultimate trim, you’re going to get an iPad style, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay, and Android Auto.

Engine start-stop and other control buttons on 2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate

You get a nice swipe feature, climate control, and a push-button start quickly. You will love some of the reddish-orange embellishments that Hyundai brought around the control buttons.

If you don’t want to touch the screen, you can use the control buttons. You get your navigation, backup camera, and trajectory, which is excellent. Also, you have wireless charging, 12 volts, USB, and an aux jack. So connectivity wise the Ultimate is the way to go if you want to have DCT and full connectivity.

You have heated seats and a drive selector button with three different modes: Normal, Sport, and Smart. But, you don’t have the ventilated seats.

The lever is going to control the 7-speed DCT, and you’ll like the red trim. To put it over a manual shift mode, you slide it over to the left, and you’re going to use the paddles to go up and down the 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission). But the arm brake is a little bit old-fashioned.

The dual-clutch transmission

  • Key fob

The key fob has the right size and considerable weight with tasteful buttons. Also, the key fob is excellent in your pocket.

  • Center storage

You have two cupholders, but the armrest is a little challenging, and it is made out of rubber. You do want this was leather to match the seats, but when you open it up, you could probably stand up because it has a pretty good amount of size.

  • Seats

You do have the turbo embossed in the back with the orange-red trim. If you don’t want substantial bolstering, Veloster hits it to a tee with a nice overall feel and comfort, and you’re not going to get squished.

  • Sunroof

Veloster has a large sunroof that is nice and easy to open. Just press the button to make it slide.

  • Sound system

Veloster has the Infinity sound system, which is excellent, and an auto-dimming mirror.

  • Behind the wheel

Behind the wheel, you do have all of your various safety features, which is excellent. That’s going to help you stay protected. On the Veloster Turbo, with the ultimate package, you have a head-up display. The steering wheel can be your favorite because of the nice thickness and good notches on the 10 and 2.

The shape of the horn button is excellent. You have red trim; brighten up a little flat black button. The good-sized paddle on the back of the steering wheel is going to have you go up-down that 7-speed DCT.

The nice steering wheel on Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate

The dash is very clean and bright, and you got beautiful LED-backlit gauges, tach, cooling gauge, and digital display in the center. You could go through the information link of your different drivers’ assistance that you could turn it off.

The analog speedometer and tachometer are in the heads-up display because, in sport mode, it actually shows the TAC gear and miles per hour, so you’ll get lots of information.

No matter what, if you are six feet tall, you still have plenty of headroom. You can do your autocross, and you can even do a track day on the Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

  • Backseat

What’s excellent concerning the Veloster Turbo is you don’t even have to disturb the passenger. You just come on in, and someone with six feet tall doesn’t have a ton of headroom, but their head is not hitting the inside of the headliner. The curved design is excellent, with plenty of space.

The seat is not too bad when it comes to comfort. You have two cupholders and a tray where you can enjoy your drive as somebody’s driving you to your next destination.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate 2020: Back hatch

First of all, you’ll love the taillights. It’s light, looks so unique, and full LED.

To open up the hatch, push a button right underneath where the windshield wiper is, and it can lift very well.

The amount of space with the seats up is incredible because you have 20 cubic feet. If you fold the seats down, you’re going to have 44.5 cubic feet of space, and it’s easy to fold the seats down. Also, underneath the cargo mat, you have space to put your spare tire or tools.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate 2020: Performance

You will feel the difference between the new Hyundai Veloster Turbo and the previous first generation of the Veloster.

The biggest thing is the multi-link rear suspension because many personalities don’t fully understand what that does for driving.

So, it is not only when you’re going on your routine regular commute or merely rolling around town, however when you turn up the wick, the path gets twisty. The multi-link rear suspension is operating to do miracles.

The beautiful thing about the Veloster Turbo compared to the previous model is a 7-speed DCT. So, you are not rolling through your gears. However, you have the shifter tilted over to the left to support the paddles up-down that 7-speed DCT transmission.

Visibility on the front’s greyed out of the rear window; it’s tight. One thing to be aware of is the blind spots because looking outback is pretty hard. However, if you properly use your mirrors with all the safety tech in this car, it isn’t challenging once you get used to it.

You’ll like the power; 275 is excellent in the Veloster end. People want just a nice sporty car to drive, and with the ultimate package, you have the leather interior. Driving Veloster Turbo is a ton of fun. You can hear a great sound in the cabin, almost like a more resonant throaty inline-four sound.

The backlit LED gauges are so simple to read. You have a digital display for the gear indicator in the upper left-hand corner. Also, the downshift and upshift are very smooth.

The infotainment system is secure, and you’ll love how clear it is. The navigation map is fresh, and the connectivity got you covered in every angle, especially with USBs’ wireless charging.

That’s showing how Hyundai wants you to be connected in your vehicle, and it’s easy.

The torque and the horsepower are relatively smooth. The noise factor can be one of your favorite parts because it returns the entire enjoyment factor.

You can feel if the car needs a limited-slip diff, and when you go Veloster with the performance package, you’re going to get that limited-slip diff. But other than that, you got a very balanced chassis and the independent rear suspension doing the business from front to rear.

The steering wheel has a nice weight and allows you to get a sense of what those front tires are doing. Remember being FWD, they’re steering, accelerating, and braking for you, and you could only ask so much of each before you break traction. The turning radius of this car is crazy. You’re able to make a u-turn so fast. Hyundai Veloster Turbo carries the speed, so awesome, and it handles its weight nicely.
